まずは、冷凍庫の件ですが、昨日の夕方になって「冷たくなってる」ということに。お水を入れてみたら、氷になりました。はて。先日書いたように、旅行に出る前日に霜というか氷がついたりしていてドアがちゃんと閉まっていなかったのかと思い、その後は特に気をつけて、旅行に出た当日も冷蔵庫のものをいくつか冷凍庫に入れた時もかなり注意して閉めたのでドアが空いていたとは考えにくいのですが、かなり一杯一杯だったので、ひょっとすると引き出しが閉まりきらず少し空いてドアを押してしまったのかな、とも思っています。夫が言うのは、開けた時、手の感覚ではちゃんと閉まっていたように思ったと言っていますし、わたしも旅行のでた日は気をつけてチェックしたので納得出来ない気持ちではありますが、それくらいしか説明がつかない気もします。何日か駄目でその後普通に作動することもあるんでしょうか？何しろ、しばらく気をつけようと思います。
Firstly, about the freezer. Yesterday evening, we noticed that the freezer was getting colder again and we put a little bowl of water inside and found it frozen some hours later. Well…. Like wrote before, I did notice some frost/ice inside the freezer on the day before and thought I must’ve left the door very slightly opened so I was very careful to make sure the door was completely closed whenever I opened the freezer that day and the day we left for our holiday. I put a few things in the freezer in the last minute but, again, I was conscious of making sure that the door was closed on the day we left, so I’m finding it hard to think it wasn’t totally closed. However, I cannot think of any other reason why this happened either. The freezer was very full and all the drawers were up to maximum full so I am wondering if one or some of the drawers sort of pushed the door and it slightly opened? My husband says he felt in hid hand that it was properly closed when he opened, you know when the door of a fridge or freezer isn’t closed properly when you open it? Could it have stopped working for some days then came back to life?? Anyway, we’ll keep an eye on it so we’ll know if it plays up.
さて、今日は、親しいお友達ご夫婦とキャッチアップのディナーをしました。場所は、チチェスターのLemongrass というタイ料理のお店。夫婦２組で食べたいものが結構違うので、それぞれ夫婦で前菜２品、メイン２品オーダーしました。
We had dinner with our good friends to catch up at “Lemongrass” in Chichester. We tend to want to eat different things so we decided to order separately rather than sharing everything.
わたしたちは、いつものもの。野菜の春巻きとチキンのサテー。春巻きは具の味付けが薄すぎだと思いしたが、まぁ、普通かな。サテーは硬くて駄目でした。
For starters, we ordered the usual – deep-fried vegetable spring rolls and chicken satay. The spring rolls were OK although I thought the filling could have been seasoned better. The satay was very tough and not great.
お友達ご夫婦は、海老の天ぷら（なぜタイ料理のお店で天ぷらなのかは謎ですが）と、チキンとココナッツのスープ。
Our friends ordered Prawn Tempura (I don’t understand why they would have ‘Tempura’ in a Thai restaurant…) and Chicken & Coconut soup.
メインは、わたしたちはチキンのミンチのサラダ（ラーブ）とチキンのマサマンカレー。ラーブは、ちょっと甘すぎましたし辛くなかった。唐辛子とライムを追加でお願いすれば良かったと後で思いましたが、お願いしそびれました。マサマンカレーも甘すぎてココナッツミルクが多すぎた気がしました。
For the main, we ordered Mince chicken salad (laab) and Chicken Massaman Curry. The laab was a little too sweet and not spicy at all, I should have asked them for extra chilli pepper and lime but I didn’t. Massaman curry was also very sweet with so much coconut milk.
お友達ご夫婦は、パッタイとチキングリーンカレー。
Our friends ordered Pat Thai and Chicken Green Curry.
写真を撮り忘れてしまいましたが、夫とわたしはデザートにバナナフリッターをシェアし、お友達のご主人はカプチーノをオーダーされました。
I’d forgotten to take a photo but my husband and I shared a dessert, Banana Fritter, and our friend (husband) had Cappucino.
お友達ご夫婦のエジプト旅行とニューヨーク旅行のお話、わたしたちのコルフ島旅行の話など、たくさんキャッチアップをして、暗くて寒くなって来たから次回はランチにしましょうか、クリスマスディナーもしないとね、などと言いつつお別れしました。そうなのです、イギリスではそろそろクリスマスが話題になっています。みなさんクリスマスが近づいてくるとお忙しくなられるので、早めに日程設定をしないと会える日がなかったりしますしね。
We talked about various things including about their trip to Egypt and New York and our trip to Corfu. We parted saying we should have lunch next time as it’s getting dark and cold at night and we should also set a date for a Christmas dinner soon. Yes, we have already started to talk about Christmas, I think many people are here. Everyone seems to get very busy nearer to Christmas so if you don’t set a date early you may not have a chance to see them before Christmas.
こうしてお互いに元気で時々集まってたくさんおしゃべりして笑えることが、とても嬉しい今日この頃です。
I am so happy to get together with them like this regularly, chat a lot and laugh a lot together.
