１週間前の土曜日、夫のお誕生日のお祝いホリデーが終わり、９時半ごろアップルドアで借りていた家を出て、家に戻って来ました。借りていた家の外観の写真はアップしていなかったと思いますが、こちらです。階段を登って玄関に入るとベッドルームが４つあり、上の階にリビング・ダイニングルームとキッチン、ユーティリティー、トイレがありました。

So, a week ago, on Saturday, after spending a week in Appledore to celebrate my husband’s special birthday with his extended family, we left the house and came back home.  I don’t think I posted a photo of the house, so here it is.  You go up the stairs from the street and get in the main door and find 4 bedrooms on that floor, you go upstairs and find the living/dining room, the kitchen, the utility room and a toilet.

 

辺りはとても良い景色でしたが、なかなか写真のおさめられず。

The scenery around the town was very pretty, but I didn’t manage to get good photos.

 

 

家まで車で４時間半から５時間なので、途中、Montecute という街に寄って、ナショナルトラストの Montecute House のグラウンドを歩いて、街にあるパブでランチをしました。Montecute はとっても素敵な街並みでした。

It took us 4 and a half hours to 5 hours to drive home so we had lunch at a pub in Montecute as well as walking in the grounds of National Trust’s Montecute House.  The village of Montecute was a very pretty little place.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ランチは、このパブで。

This is the pub where we had lunch.

 

 

夫の、プラウマンズ。プラウマンズはパブにはほぼ必ずあるメニューですが、パブによって内容も量も全然違います。このパブのプラウマンズは、２人分くらいありました。わたしもプラウマンズが食べたいと思うことがあるのですが、残念ながらチーズはほとんどいつもチェダーです。以前は、我が家のすぐ近くにあるパブではブルーチーズを選ぶことができたのですが、その後、やはりチェダーのみになってしまいました。値段が上がっても良いのにブルーチーズやカマンベール系のチーズに変えてもらえれば良いのになと思います。

My husband’s Ploughman’s.  You find Ploughman’s in most pubs but they are all very different in terms of what you get and how much you get.  This one was very large and apparently very good – maybe enough for two people!  I sometimes feel like having Ploughman’s but sadly it comes with cheddar cheese in most places.  The pub near our house used to offer blue cheese instead of Cheddar but they stopped that and now only do cheddar.  I wish more places offered blue cheese or camembert instead of Cheddar, I don’t mind if they have to charge a little extra for it.

 

わたしは、ファラフェルのフラットブレッドサンドにしました。美味しかったです。アップルドアー近辺での食事もこのパブでの食事も、とても美味しく、夫に「わたしたちの住んでるところだけが、あんなに美味しくないのかな？」と言ったほどでした。

I had Falafel Flatbread Sandwich, which was very good.  Actually, all the meals we had in and near Appledore as well as this pub were good.  I even said to my husband that our area is particularly bad in terms of foods.

 

 

この日は、アップルドアーを出た時は曇っていましたが、その後晴れて、家に到着した４時前以降も良いお天気でした。一緒に過ごした家族の中でわたしたちがアップルドアーから一番遠かったので、他のみんなはわたしたちより２時間くらい前に無事に自宅に到着していました。

It was quite cloudy when we left Appledore but it got sunny later in the day and was very nice when we got back home a little before 4:00pm and for the rest of the day.  We live furthest from Appledore amongst the family members that we spent the week with so everyone else was back home safely about 2 hours before we were.
