今日から来ていただく新しいガーデナーさんと夫が今朝４時間ほどかかって、お庭（フロントガーデンとバックガーデン）にマルチングをしてくれました。マルチが少し足りなかったようですが、春まで出来ない部分もあるので春にまたオーダーしようと思います。雨が降る予報だったので心配でしたが幸い今朝はなんとか持ち堪え、午後から雨になりました。明日は少し晴れ間が見えるようですが、その後はまた毎日雨。

The new gardener and my husband worked hard this morning for about 4 hours to mulch the whole back and front gardens and it’s mostly done although we are a little short of mulch so we need to get a bit more and finish a small area.  We’ll also have to do the part where the penstemons are, after we can cut them back in spring so we’ll get more then.  We were very worried about the weather because the forecast said was going to rain from the morning but fortunately it held back and didn’t rain until they had finished.  It did rain soon after that so we were very lucky.  It looks like we’ll have some sun tomorrow but after that it’ll be raining day after day again.

さて、さて、明日はバレンタインデーですね。みなさん、何かされるのでしょうか。我が家は、日本では大好きなレストランでディナーをしていましたが、香港の高級レストランで酷いディナーを食べて以来出かけないことも多くなってチーズフォンデュ〜を家でしたりしていました。イギリスではこの数年、ディナーではなくお昼にアフタヌーンティーに行っています。明日も、ランチタイムにホテルのアフタヌーンティーをいただく予定です。

Now, it is Valentine’s Day tomorrow.    I wonder if my friends are doing anything.  The majority of Japanese don’t do anything special after getting married.  We always went out to our favourite restaurant for dinner in Japan but after we moved to Hong Kong we had a very expensive and awful dinner at a very posh restaurant and we stopped going out; I think we used to have something like Cheese Fondue at home.  Since we moved to England, we have been going to Afternoon Tea (but at lunch time) and that’s what we will be doing tomorrow.

なのですが、バレンタインデーに向けてM&Sからプリメイドの食事（あとはオーブンに入れたり電子レンジで温める状態のもの）の中から前菜、メイン、サイド、デザート、ワイン、それぞれのグループから１品ずつ選んで25ポンド（5210円）というスペシャルオファーがあったので、オーダーしてみることにしました。デリバリーは１１日から数日OKだったので昨日デリバリーをしてもらって、今日のディナーにしました。とてもお得で、わたしたちの場合はワインの分がお得（10ポンドくらい）でしたがオーダーするものによっては18ポンドお得になる場合もありました。わたしたちがオーダーした時にはもう品切れだったものも多く、やはりお高いものが早く品切れになっていたように思います。

However, we heard about this special offer from M&S – £25 for a starter, a main, a side, a dessert and a bottle of wine.  It seemed such a good deal that we decided to order it, but by the time we did quite a few items were already out of stock.  I just calculated how much it would have been together and it looks like we had about £10 saving, which is about the price of the bottle of wine.  There were many more expensive items we could have chosen if we were quicker and you could havce saved as much as £18 or so.  I think in general the more expensive items were gone first.

わたしたちがオーダーしたのは、前菜にフォカッチャとカマンベール、メインはチキンの胸肉のパピエット（中にマッシュルームとトリュフとシェリーを詰めてベーコンで巻いたもの）、サイドはスプリンググリーン、グリーンピス、カボロネッロにワイルドガーリックとミント入りバター、デザートは塩キャラメルのプロフィタロール。

We ordered Focaccia & Melting Camembert for the starter, Chicken breast Paupiette (with a creamy mushroom, truffle & sherry centre wrapped in bacon) for the main, Spring greens, petit pois and cavolo nero with butter, wild garlic & mint for the side, and Salted caramel profiteroles for the dessert, plus a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

 

フォカッチャは可愛いハート型。ちょっとドライでしたが、美味しくいただきました。量が多かったので、半分以上残っています。

The focaccia was in a heart shape but was a little dry. However we enjoyed it enough.  There was a lot of it so we had less than half, we’ll have more tomorrow.

 

チキンもサイドのお野菜も美味しかったです。これも量が多くて、わたしは食べきれませんでしたが、夫は完食。

Both the chicken and the side vegetables were very nice, too.  The portion was quite large so I wasn’t able to finish it but my husband did.

 

プロフィタロールとは日本のシュークリームで、こちらのものは小さくて中身はカスタードではなくクリーム。上からチョコレートソースがたっぷりかかっているものが典型的だと思いますが、これは塩絡めるクリームが載せたあって、少しだけチョコレートがかかていました。甘すぎず美味しかったです。２つずつ残っているので、日曜日にあと２つずついただきます。

Profiteroles.  Not too sweet, very nice.  We had just 2 pieces each so some left for later.

 

 

 

 

ということで、美味しかったです。メインはオーブンに入れるだけ、スターターとサイドは電子レンジで数分温めるだけと準備も楽で、コースでいただけて楽しかったです。

So it was all very good and it was fun to have because they were sort of things we don’t usually have and everything was easy to prepare.
