旅行の記事は撮った写真を見ながら整理しているのですが、一眼レフで撮った写真とiPhoneで撮った写真は別のファイルに入りますし、時間が経っ ているのでごちゃになってしまい、ブログで書いた日程が違っていて後から訂正したりしています。やっぱり、そのとき書かないと色々忘れてしまいますね。

I’ve been writing about our holiday in Sicily, checking with photos, trying to remember what we did each day but sometimes it’s hard to remember or figure out because I have 2 sets of photos (iPhone and my DSLR).  Now and again I make a mistake and have to correct it – so you may see some completely changed posts.

シ ラクーサに日曜日に着いて、月曜日はカルタジローネとモザイクで有名なカサーレ荘に1日出かけ、火曜日は午前中は市場、４時半頃からギリシャ劇場などの見 学、水曜日はモディカ、木曜日は午前中にもう一度市場に行って、４時半からお料理教室、金曜日はラグーサ、ラグーサイブラ、チクリ、土曜日は朝早くから ノート、１１時からワイナリー見学、というのがシラクーサに滞在した１週間の行動でした。朝は早くても１０時頃の出発でしたし、何箇所も駆け足でというこ とではなかったので一般的なツアーに参加されるとこの３、４倍忙しいスケジュールだと思いますが、わたしたちにしては結構ハードスケジュールでした。車移 動だけでなく、結構歩きましたしね。しかも階段と坂道ばかり。

Just to remind myself – we arrived in Syracuse on Sunday.  On Monday, we visited Caltagirone and Villa Romana del Casale, which took us all day.  On Tuesday, we visited the Market and took a private guided tour in the Syracuse Greek Theatre etc.  On Wednesday, we visited Modica and relaxed in the villa from late afternoon.  On Thursday, we visited Syracuse Market again in the morning and took a cooking class from 4.30pm.  On Friday we visited Ragusa, Ragusa Ibla and Sicli.  On Saturday, we visited Noto early in the morning then took a winery tour near Noto from 11.30am.

As I said a few times, this is a much busier schedule than we usually have, but most Japanese who would take tours would be 3 or 4 times busier than we were!

 

で、金曜日は朝からラグーサとラグーサ・イブラに行きました。シラクーサから車で２時間弱くらいのところ。

So, on the Day 8, Friday, we visited Ragusa and Ragusa Ibla, which are about 2 hours from where we were.

ラグーサは、モディカ同様１６９３年の大地震で壊滅的な被害を受け、復興にあたって以前からあった旧市街地をのこしつつ、町の丘の上にもう１つ新市街地を形成し、上の街のラグーサ・スーペリオーレと下の街のラグーサ・イブラという形になったそうです。やはりバロックの街でユネスコ世界遺産に登録されています。

In 1693 Ragusa was devastated by a huge earthquake;  Following this catastrophe the city was largely rebuilt, and many baroque buildings from this time remain in the city.The new settlement is called “Ragusa Superiore” and the ancient city is called “Ragusa Ibla”.  Ragusa is one of the UNESCO heritage sites.

 

このラグーサ、今ひとつ様子がわからないまま、わたしたちはこの２つの街の間に最初たどり着いたようでした。教会があるところまで行ってみると、素晴らしい眺め。

We hadn’t understood the geography of this place very well and arrived in the middle of these two, where you get a fantastic view of Ragusa Ibla.

 

 

 

 

 

お 昼前に着いたのでどこかで行くレストランを決めて、歩いて１０分くらいと夫が思ったレストランを目指してiPhoneのアプリの地図を見ながら途中まで降 りたのですが、目指すところがあまりに遠く（下の写真の遠くのほうに見える丘の上の教会が目指すところ）どう考えてもとても１０分では無理な距離。降りる のは降りられても、暑い中、この道をまた駐車場まで登ってくるのはあまりに大変。

As we arrived a little before lunch time, we decided to have lunch first.  We picked a restaurant from a list, and walked towards the direction but when we saw this view we realised it would be too far to walk.  Although the information on the iPhone application my husband was using told him it was about 10 minutes walk, it really didn’t look so.  We were going to walk to the area where you can see the church on top of the hill below in this photo.  No way it would be only 10 minutes.  It would be such hard work to come up to the car even if we were OK to go down (then up) to the restaurant,specially in the hot weather.

 

車を停めたところの近くにも良さそうなレストランがあったので、そちら方面に戻ってそのレストランに行くことにしました。

So we picked another restaurant, which was near where we parked our car.

 

中には入りませんでしたが、ラグーサ大聖堂=カテドラーレ。

We didn’t go inside but this is the Ragusa Cathedral.

 

 

 

前菜は、生ハムとチーズをシェアー。生ハムは、トスカーナやウンブリアでは薄くスライスされていて柔らかくて味もしっかり発酵した味で深みがあってとてもおいしかったですが、シチリアでは暑くスライスされているところがほとんどで硬めでしたし、味もあまり深みがなかったように思いました。地方性なのかたまたまなのかはわかりません。

In the restaurant, we shared a plate of ham (parma ham type) and cheese.  I don’t know if it was just by chance but I found this type of ham in Sicily were often sliced much thicker than what I’ve had in Umbria and Toscana and often too chewy.  I also didn’t think they had as deep flavour as what we had in Umbria and Toscana.

ある方のブログにここのサンドライトマトのパスタがとても美味しかったと書かれていましたし、サンドライトマトのパスタはシチリア独特のパスタソースで病みつきになる程美味しかったという情報をたくさん見かけたのでオーダーしてみたのですが、ここのはとても塩辛くてあまり食べられませんでした。

I read in someone’s blog that the pasta with sun dried tomato at this restaurant was so delicious.  I’ve read many people saying that pasta with sun dried tomato is very Sicilian, special and delicious, so I ordered it.  Sadly it was much too salty for me to enjoy so I filled myself with bread.

夫はニョッキが大好きなのですが、シチリアではあまり見かけずやっと見かけたのでオーダーしていました。ニョッキは北の方のものなのであまり見かけなかったのだと思います。ゴルゴンゾーラと胡桃のソース。夫は美味しいと食べていましたが、かなり味も濃くゴルゴンゾーラとクリームがわたしにはヘビーすぎ。

My husband had gnocchi with Gorgonzola and walnuts.  He loves gnocchi but we didn’t see them in Sicily often, I think it’s mainly from the Northolt Italy. My husband liked this very much but to me it was too heavy with cheese and cream and the texture of gnocchi was very heavy, too.  It doesn’t mean bad, it just wasn’t to my liking. I like light gnocchi with a  lighter sauce.

 

Tripadvisor でも結構評判が良いお店でしかもほとんどがイタリア語の評価だったので観光客向けのお店でもないようなのですが、とにかく塩辛すぎて残念でした。

This restaurant has lots of good reviews on Tripadvisor, mostly from Italian people so I don’t think it was a touristy place, so it was disappointing.  Gnocchi wasn’t too bad and, as I say, my husband liked it, but my pasta was far too salty even for my husband.

ランチの後は車に戻って、ラグーサ・イブラまで行って車を停めて散策しました。ヨーロッパの駐車場では自動販売機でチケットを買ったりキオスクでチケットを買って車のフロントガラスのところに置いて出るところが多いのでここでも自動販売機を探しましたが見当たらず、近くに車を停められたイタリア人の女性に聞いてみたら、「ここは無料よ、線が白いところは無料なのよ。」と教えてくれました。

After lunch, we walked back to the car and drove to Ragusa Ibla.  We found a parking lot but couldn’t find a machine to buy tickets so I asked a lady who was parking a car.  She told me that it’s free.  Apparently, where the lines are white, parking is free.

教会の前のカフェで休憩。わたしはいちごのグラニータ、夫はパフェのようなのを頼んでいました。

We had a break at the cafe in front of the church.  I had strawberry granita and my husband had something like icecream sundae.

この日もよく歩きました。ラグーサから３、４０分ほどのところにある小さな町、チクリ（Sicli)も素敵なところだと読んだので、少し遠回りになるけれど寄ることにしました。チクリの町が見えてきました。

We walked a lot here as well.  Then we drove to a little town called Sicli as I’ve read it’s a nice little town.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

チクリでは駐車場が見つからず、車でざっと走っただけで諦めることに。シラクーサまで１時間半ほど。帰りに夕食に必要なものを買いにスーパーにも寄ったので、多分、ヴィラに着いたのは夕方６時頃だったと思います。朝１０時頃から夕方６時まで出かけていて、たくさん歩いて、ちょっと疲れた１日でした。

We weren’t able to find a parking spot in Sicli (we drove inside to try to find a parking so we sort of saw the town) so we drove back to our villa in Syracuse, which took about an hour and a half.  We also stopped at a supermarket to buy a few things for the dinner so I think it was about 6.00pm when we got back.  We were a little tired after a long day with lots of walking and driving.

 

ラグーサは古い建物に趣があってとても素敵な街で、もっとゆっくりとぶらぶらとあちらこちらの路地を歩いてみたい街でした、またぜひ行ってみたい街の１つです。

Ragusa was a beautiful place, I would have loved to spend more time walking in the little streets looking at the lovely ancient buildings.  It’s one of the places I’d love to go back to.

この日の夕食は、ヴィラからもアップしましたが、市場で買ったワイルド（野生の）アスパラガスのパスタ（スパゲティー）とお料理教室で作ったパスタとラグーの１品と簡単サラダでの夕食でした。

The dinner this day was Spaghetti with the wild asparagus that we bought in the market, and pasta with the ragu that we made at the cooking class on the day before as I already blogged from Sicily.
