腱鞘炎は良くなるどころか悪くなっているような。。。なので写真編集もあまりしないほうが良さそうでまとめてしないよう気をつけているため、台湾と日本滞在の記事が遅れています（涙）。台湾に行ったのはもう１ヶ月以上も前のことになってしまいました。
My tendovaginitis on my right wrist isn’t getting better but getting worse, so I’m trying not to do too much editing of photos or typing – hence the delay of my report on my visit to Taiwan and Japan. It’s already been more than a month since I visited Taiwan.
台湾２日目、十份で天燈（ランタン）をあげたあと、続いて九份へ行きました。十份から４、５０分だったかと思います。どちらも本当は夕暮れ時が雰囲気が良いという情報でしたがこの日しか行けなかったので、九份を優先して十份にはまだ明るいうちに行きました。あまり長く滞在しなかったのと特に渋滞もなかったので九份にも予定より早くまだ明るいうちに到着しましたが、歩いているうちに暗くなってきて提灯に明かりも灯って雰囲気がよくなりました。やはり提灯に灯りがついた方が良い感じでした。この辺りは雨がよく降るそうでわたしたちが行ったときも途中少し降りました。屋根がある部分が多いのですが階段の部分は雨に濡れるので、カッパを持って行っていて良かったです。（人混みの中で傘はとても使いづらい。）幸い降ったのはほんの短時間で助かりました。
After letting a lantern fly in Shihfen, we went visited Jiufen, which I think was something ike 40 or 50 minutes by car from Shihfen. We read information that both Shihfen and Jiufen look nicer in dusk, but we only had one full day so we sort of had to choose only one of them to visit at dusk. We didn’t stay in Shihfen very long and the traffic was better than we expected so we arrived in Jiufen earlier than we scheduled and it was still light but it started getting darker while we were walking in the streets. I must say it looked quite a lot nicer after the lanters were lit. I read that it rains a lot here and it did rain a little when we were there, too. We were glad that we took a light rain coat (cheap one that you don’t mind throwing away after one use) because it would have been hard to use an umbrella in the crowd of people. The rain didn’t last very long, which was fortunate.
九份は１９世紀後半までは静かな村だったそうですが、ゴールドラッシュで１９世紀後半から２０世紀前半にかけて台湾全土から人々が集まったところなのだそうです。１９７１年に閉山してからはかつての静かな村に戻っていたそうですが、１９８９年に映画「非情城市」の舞台になったことで再び注目を浴び、日本では２００１年公開された映画「千と千尋の神隠し」に登場する湯婆婆の湯屋を彷彿させると話題になり、以来観光地ナンバーワンになったというところ。
This small village developed from a quiet village into a town with a gold rush from late 19th century to early 20th century, but it again became a quiet little village in 1971, when the mine was shut off and remained that way until recently.
The main reason why Jiufen became so popular more recently is because people believe that it looks very much like the downtown in the Miyazaki anime movie “Spirited Away”, which came out in 2001 – even though Miyazaki himself denied that it was the model city for the movie.
正直なところわたしは映画「千と千尋の神隠し」も観ていないのですが、台北から比較的近く人気のある観光地はここしかなかったので、やはりここに行ってみることにしました。
To be honest, I wasn’t that interested in this place because I haven’t even seen this movie but I didn’t find anywhere else I wanted to visit, and I wanted to visit somewhere other than just eating our way through the trip.
要するに、食べ物屋さんやお土産やさんの並ぶ道を歩くだけなのですが、何度か書いたようにこの日は４連休中で、普段もとても混むそうですが、それはすごい人でした。早めの時間についたので途中まではまぁ良かったのですが、行った道を帰る頃には日本の初詣のようでチョコチョコ歩きで延々と。。。まぁ、台湾らしいお店（えりんぎを焼いていたり杏仁ミルクを売っていたり）があったりで一度は行っても良いですが、また行きたいとは思わないところでした。
All you do is to walk along the small streets looking in the shops, and it was interesting enough and I don’t regret we went there, but I wouldn’t want to visit again as there isn’t much there and it got so busy. It wasn’t too bad at first but by the time we turned around and walked back to where we started (where we were being picked up) it was so so busy. It was so busy you couldn’t stop and look in shops or buy anything, you just had to walk in your little steps and it took as forever. I felt exhausted by the time we got picked up by our hired taxi.
