車を止めて写真を撮れるところが少なかったのでほとんどが車の中から撮った写真なので、光の照り返しがあったり何かが写り込んでいたりしていますが。

There weren’t many places to stop and take photos so most photos were taken from inside the car and have something on the glass like the reflection of the light.

ケープ半島のドライブの後半。Scarborough には評判の良いカフェがあったのでそこでランチをしたかったのですが、朝ゆっくり（多分１１時前くらいに）出発したので、Cape of Good Hope と呼ばれる半島の先端部分でランチをしました。

We wanted to have lunch at a cafe, which has a good reputation, in Scarborough but we didn’t leave for the drive until around 11.00am so we ended up having lunch in a restaurant in the Cape of Good Hope Park itself.

 

 

 

 

 

 

多分、アランチーノのようなものをオーダーしたと思いますが、ソースは完全に冷たく、揚げたものもほぼ室温。味は悪くなかった気がしますが、こういうものは熱々でないとね。かなり残念。

I think I chose something like Arancino (but not sure).  The sauce was completely cold and the fried balls were almost room temperature.  I think the taste was OK but these should be hot.

夫は多分、鹿肉の種類のカルパッチョだと思います。ちなみに、南アフリカでは Venison というとわたしたちが思い浮かべる鹿に限らず、スプリングボックだったりだったりワイルドビーストだったり、いろいろです。このときのお肉が何だったか思い出せませんが。

My husband, I think, had carpacio of some sort of venison.  In South Africa, venison isn’t just what we know of as deer, they can be Springbok, Wildebeast or some other kinds.  I cannot remember what this one was exactly.

メインは、わたしはチキンと何かクスクスサラダっぽいものだったと思いますが、苦手なヨーグルトがたっぷりかかっていて残念でした。ケープタウンでは、ヨーグルトがよく使われていて、それもヨーグルトにレモン汁や塩コショウやハーブを加えたソースではなくヨーグルトそのもののことが多かったです。

For the main, I chose chicken with something like couscous salad but unfortunately it had a lot of  yogurt.  I don’t mind if it’s yogurt sauce with some lemon juice and herbs but I happen to dislike yogurt so this was a bit of a problem. I found a lot of food served with yogurt in Cape Town,  I don’t know if it’s a worldwide trend or not.

このドライブコースも観光客が必ず走るコースですし、このレストランは巨大なレストランで団体客も多いので、想像していた通り食べ物は美味しくなかったですしとても待たされました。本当はサンドイッチかサラダなどの軽いものをいただきたかったのですがそういうチョイスはなく、２コースか３コースかというチョイス。見た目はきれいに今風のちょっとしたオシャレなレストラン風に出て来ましたが、味が全然だめでした。オシャレにしなくて良いから、シンプルで誰でも美味しく作れるものを出してくれれば良いのに。まぁ、でも、こういう観光地は仕方ないですね、日本でも団体客が多い観光地ではあまり美味しいものは食べられないことが多いですし。気候が良ければどこかスーパーでサンドイッチを買ってピクニックでもする方が良いですが、この日もとても暑かったのでそれも無理な感じでした。暑いと言っても日陰なら快適でしたので、土地に詳しければきっとピクニックをするところもあると思うのですが。

We wanted to have lunch at a cafe in Scarborough as it has a good reputation but we left too late in the day (around 11.00am) so we took lunch at Cape of Good Hope.  As this is a drive most people who visit Cape Town drive, there are many large groups, it’s a huge restaurant and very touristy.  You have a beautiful view but their service was very slow and the food wasn’t good.  The food looked pretty but the taste wasn’t good at all.  I wish they didn’t bother with presentation and just stuck to simple good food like sandwiches or some other simple dishes.  There wasn’t such choices, you had to choose 2 or 3 course menu.  Still, this is often the case in touristy places, even in Japan it’s not easy to get good food in very tourist areas.  I think it would have been better if we had bought some sandwiches in a supermarket and had a picnic, but it was a hot day and we didn’t find a lot of shade so that wouldn’t have worked for us.  I guess if you know the area you know where you can find shade and a suitable place for a picnic.

そんな美味しくないランチを食べることになっても、この景色を見るためなら価値ありです。本当にきれいでした。

Anyway, the view you get along this drive is worth having a bad lunch for sure.  So so beautiful!
