子供の頃、本を読むのが大好きで、かといってそうそう本を買ってもらうことはできないのでよく家にあったお花の辞典を読んでいました。なので、その頃はお花の名前など良く知っていたのですが、あれから数十年（笑）経った今は全然詳しくなく、葉っぱだけを見てもなんのお花かさっぱりわからないことが多いのですが、暖かくなって来て春から夏に咲くお花が蕾をつけてきました。このお家で過ごす初めての年なので、自分たちのお庭に何があるか全然知りません。見に来た時に紫陽花がたくさん咲いていましたし、お花が枯れた状態で残っていて、葉っぱもわかりやすい形なので紫陽花がたくさんあるのは知っていましたが、他はさっぱり。
When I was a child, I loved reading a book but of course my parents couldn’t keep buying books (I was a very fast reader, too, and spent hours and hours reading), so I used to read an Encyclopedia of Flowers that happened to be at home so I used to know lots of flowers. However, that was decades and decades ago. Now I’m not that good at naming flowers, specially when they are just leaves, so I didn’t know half of the flowers we have in our garden. Now that it’s getting warmer and we started seeing buds and flowers. This is our first year here so we have no idea what we have, although I knew we had quite a lot of hydrangeas as we saw them when we first came to look at the house last summer and the flowers were left on the stems when we moved in.
数日気温が下がって寒かったのですが、昨日辺りからまた暖かくなり、今日は１８度くらいまで上がり、日向にいると暑いくらいの良いお天気になっています。今週はずっと良いお天気の予報で、嬉しい。
It got a bit colder a few days ago for a little while but it’s warmed up again and we are having gorgeous weather, the temperature went up to 18C today, it was actually too hot to be in the sun. I’m happy that the weather forecast says it’s going to be like this for the whole week.
ということで、お天気も良いし、お庭の探検をしてみました。と言っても小さなお庭ですが、これはなに？と思うものがたくさんあったので、夫と一緒に夫の携帯のアプリで調べてみました。
So with such beautiful weather I decided to explore our garden. It doesn’t take long as it’s small but there were a few flowers/plants that I didn’t know so my husband looked them up for me with a flower finder (application on iPhone).
いつの間にか蕾ができていました。ピオニー？？と思ったらそうでした。嬉しい。
I noticed these buds today for the first time and thought “Are these peonies??” , and they are! I love peonies.
これは、お隣のお花が垣根を登ってこちらに垂れてきているのですが、クレマチスだそうです。クレマチスも大好き。たくさん蕾ができています、咲くのが楽しみ。
These belong to the next door neighbour but they have climbed the fence and are coming down our fence, they are Clematis, which I also love. So many buds! I’m looking forward to seeing the flowers.
これは反対に、こちらから垣根を超えてあちらに進出している様子。これは、ジャスミンだそうです、ジャスミンの香りが大好きなの絶対植えたいと思っていましたが、もう育っているのがありました。お花はまだ。咲くのは夏かな。
These are climbing up our fence over to the other side – Jasmine! I really love the smell of Jasmine. It was one of the plants I really wanted to plant in our garden but we already had them! No flowers yet, I guess they’ll be out in the summer.
そして、これは枇杷の木らしいです。実は食べられるのかな？
This tree is Loquat (also known as Japanese medlar / Japanese Plum). I wonder if we can eat the fruits.
これは、フューシャ。結構大きく育っていて、２つ蕾がついています。
This is fuchsia, quite a large bunch. There are just 2 small buds now.
何度かアップしているシャクナゲもずいぶん咲いて来ました。この株だけたくさん咲いていますが、他にも何株か植えてあって、蕾が膨らんで来ています。
Rhododendrons are blooming, there are a few of them here and there but this one is the only one that is blooming, others are still in buds.
これは、ブラックベリーだそうです。いろいろなところに生えているので実がなったら食べられるかな。ベリーは、結構鳥だとかが食べちゃうみたいですよね。
This is apparently blackberries. There are many of them here and there, I hope we can pick them in the season, but I have a feeling the birds may get them first.
ラズベリーも少しあり、ソレルというハーブもありました。他にも見つけられていないものもあるかもしれません。これから咲いてくるのが楽しみです。
We also seem to have some raspberries and also sorrel. I guess there are some plants that we haven’t found or identified yet, too.
そうそう、紹介し忘れていましたが、なぜだか小さな小さなパンジーが１つだけ咲いています。
Oh, I’ve been forgetting to blog this, there is just one tiny pansy, too! So cute.
