引っ越して来て何度かご一緒している夫の大学時代のお友達ご夫婦がバーベキューランチにお招きいただきました。今はまだ家の中で集まることは禁止されているので、呼ぶのも呼ばれるのもバーベキュー。ロックダウン関係なく、この時期はみなさん、集まると言うと大抵バーベキューです。メニューを考えなくても良いので楽、というのもあると思いますし、バーベキューを楽しめる時期は短いので今のうちにという感じだと思います。
ヘイスティングという街の近くにお住まいで、我が家から車で２時間弱。ロックダウンが少し緩和され、もう直ぐ大幅に緩和されるということで走っている車が多くなってロックダウン前のような状態に戻って来ている気がします。
The friends my husband met at his university time invited us to a BBQ lunch at their garden, we’ve previously met them quite a few times around the time we moved to England. We are not supposed to gather indoors so when you invite or get invited it’s almost always BBQ here. Actually, even when there is no lockdown, most people invite people to BBQ at this time of year, I think, because you don’t need to worry about menu and also the times during the year when you can have BBQ is quite limited here so they want to make the most of it.
They live near Hastings, which is about 2 hours’ away by car from us. Since the lockdown was loosened and we are expecting it to be even more drastically loosened soon, we noticed that the traffic is nearly back to before the lockdown.
英国は大きな都市でも少し車で走るとこんな景色が広がっています。今はあちらこちらに黄色い菜の花畑がたくさん。菜種油のための栽培のようです。
In the UK, if you drive just a short distance from any city or town, you see fields like this everywhere. This time of year there are many yellow patches, which are rape flowers grown for rape seed oil.
広いお庭で、バーベキュー。
BBQ in their lovely large garden.
ポークサテー、野菜のケバブ、ハルミチーズ、野菜サラダ、ポテトサラダ、ガーリックブレッド。わたしはいただきませんでしたが、ラムのケバブもありました。
Pork satay, vegetable kebab, Halloumi cheese, vegetable salad, potato salad, garlic bread. I didn’t have it but the rest of them had lamb kebab as well.

色とりどりのお花が咲いていました。池には濃いピンクと白のロータスも。
Colourful flowers here and there. Some strong pink and white lotus flowers in their pond, too.
家庭菜園もされていて、苺やいんげんやソラマメなども育てておられます。
They are growing some fruits and vegetables like strawberries, French beans, broad beans etc.
最後にご一緒したのはロックダウンの少し前、２月末にコッツウォルズに泊まりに来てくださったときなので、４ヶ月ぶりでした。その間、コロナウィルス騒ぎの最中に４人目（？）のお孫さんが無事生まれて、ご家族のみなさんもお元気で何より。これからは、時々おめにかかれますように。次回は、我が家で。まずは、夫にバーベキューをポチッとしてもらわないと。
The last time we got together was at the end of February, when they came and stayed at the cottage we rented in the Cotswolds when the world was quite different, so it’s been 4 months. While we hadn’t seen them, their 4th (I think?) grandchild was delivered, all their families have been well thankfully. I hope we’ll be able to get together often now, it’s our turn to invite them over – after my husband “clicks” the buy button for a BBQ.
