表玄関の両脇に置いている鉢に夫が植えてくれた水仙やチューリップ、徐々に成長して、水仙は１つ咲きました。背が低くて下を向いて咲いているのでお花の写真はiPhoneを上に向けて撮るような形で撮りにくかったです。片方の鉢の方が陽が当たるので片方の方が早く成長しています。

We can see that the spring bulbs like narcisus and tulips my husband planted in the pots we have at the main entrance are growing.  One of the 2 pots gets much more sunlight than the other so they look quite different (my husband has swapped them over recently).  There is one bloom of narsisus but the stem is very short and is looking downwards, so it was hard to take a photo of the flower.

前の住人の方が置いて行かれたプランターに夫が植えてくれた球根も、随分伸びてきました。

My husband planted a lot of bulbs in this large stone planter left by the previous owner of our house and they are growing taller / bigger.

 

夫が植えてくれた水仙がポツポツ咲いてきているのですが、すごく小さな水仙です。この写真の左の方と左から３分の１くらいのところに微かに見える黄色いのがそう。

Some narcisus my husband planted along the edge of the lawn are blooming, but the flowers are tiny, it’s hard to see them here but you can see some on the left and some about 1/3 from the left.

 

 

 

 

前の住民の方が植えられたムスカリ、たくさんお花が咲きました。葉っぱの方が立派ですけど。

Quite a lot of muscali (grape hyacinth) that the previous owner of our house left are also out – there are more leaves than flowers, though.

 

 

こちらは、夫が植えてくれたムスカリ。淡い淡いピンクと濃いパープル。小さすぎて、すぐそばまで行かないと見えません。

These are muscali my husband planted – very very pale pink and dark purple.  There are a few of these along the edge of the lawn, too, but they are so small, you cannot see them unless you are right there.

 

 

少し前に書いたのですが、秋に打ち合わせをして春に着工するはずだったお庭の工事は、ガーデン・デザイナーさんのお仕事が詰まっていていつになるかわからなかったので、そちらはキャンセルさせていただき、少し前に別のガーデンデザイナーさんとお話し、その方にお任せすることになりました。以前の方はデザイン以外はあまり助けていただけない感じでしたが、今回お願いした方はデザインから工事、そして植物を植えるところまでプロジェクトマネージャー的な役割をしてくださり、さらにはその先のメンテに関しても担当していただける方をご紹介してくださるそうなので良かったと思っています。

I wrote this recently, but we had to cancel our request for a new garden design by the garden designer we met last autumn. The work was supposed to start this Spring but as she now has some other delayed projects she didn’t know when exactly she would be able to work on ours (her guess was the earliest would be June/July). We decided to find someone else.  We talked to another garden designer a few weeks ago, we discussed what we want and what our budget is and she is working on the design.  The previous desginer wasn’t interested in anything other than just designing the garden and we were quite anxious about finding suitable people who could actually do the work and the planting of new plants, but this new designer will be like a project manager and look after the work and the planting and also will recommend people who can visit our garden regularly to look after it, so I think it worked out better this way.

まだ、１回目の打ち合わせをしただけなので、内容やタイミングに関してはこれから詰めていくことになります。家のリノベーションをしてくださっている方によると、以前この家にお住まいだった方もガーデンデザイナーさんにお願いされて、かなり費用をかけて今のお庭にされたとのこと。多分、あまりお手入れが必要ないお庭ということでデザインされたのだと思います。ここは北東向きのお庭であまり日当たりがよくない場所が多いので、植えられる気やお花も限られるのです。ですが、わたしたちはもっとお花がたくさんあるお庭にしたいと思っていて、そういうお庭になる予定なので、とても楽しみです。多分、時期的には早くても秋ごろになってしまうと思いますが、今更焦ってもという気がするので、気長に待とうと思います。来てすぐに家のリノベーションと並行に進めれば早く終わっていたのでしょうけれど、気分的にそういう余裕はなかったというのが本当のところ。予算のこともあるので、家のリノベーションの終わりが見えてやっとお庭のことも考えられるようになった、という感じです。

We’ve only had two initial meetings so far, so don’t know much about the design or timing of her plans.  According to the carpenter who is doing our craft room renovation, the previous owners of the house also had the garden done by a professional designer, investing quite a lot in it, but I guess their requirement was to make it low maintainance.  This garden is facing north east and doesn’t get the sun so much, so I think the type of plants and flowers that will do well here are limited.  However, we would like to have a lot more flowers.  I guess it won’t be done before autumn, but we’ve waited this long, so we can wait a bit longer.  It would have been better if we had started the garden at the same time as the house renovation, but we really didn’t have enough mental capacity to do so.  Besides, we needed to know what budget we have and for that it was better to wait until the house renovation is nearly over.

わたしたちは結婚してからイギリスに来るまでお庭を持ったことがないので、お庭に関する知識はほぼゼロ。夫は日本に来る前にお庭のあるお家に住んではいましたが、独身の若い男性だったのでそれほどお庭の手入れをしていた訳ではないと思いますし、わたしは虫嫌いなのでプランターに植えたお花のお水やりと花がらを摘むくらいしかしたことがないので、これから少しずつお勉強しなければと思いますが、基本的にはガーデナーさんに時々来てもらってお手入れしていただくのが理想（笑）。

Since we married, we never had a garden. so our knowledge on gardening is almost zero.  My husband did have a garden before coming to Japan but I don’t think he did a lot of gardening, he was young and single.  I hate insects so gardening isn’t something I was very keen on anyway.  All I’ve done is to water some planters and pick dead flower heads.  I suppose we are going to have to learn a lot now, but hopefully we’ll have a gardner, who can come regularly and look after our garden and we can enjoy it.
