家のリノベーションは初めての経験でどのお部屋に関しても何かと心配ではあったものの、他のお部屋に関しては好みの雰囲気のイメージがあったのでインテリアデコレーターの方とも相談しやすかったのですが、クラフトルームに関してはネット検索してもなかなかこれと思うイメージのお部屋に出会えず、かといって自分の頭の中にイメージがしっかりあるわけでもなかったので、どういうインテリアにするかなかなか決まりませんでした。ただ思っていたのは、収納を十分に作りたいということ、ある程度すっきりとさせたいけれど機能性だけのお部屋ではなく少し個性もあるアートっぽい雰囲気も出したい、ということでした。何もかも見えない収納にしてしまうとすっきりとはするけれどあまり個性が感じられないので、自分らしさも出したい、そして、少し「外した」柔らかさも出したい、ということで、IKEAの家具、大工さんに作りつけていただく家具とビンテージ家具を組み合わせることにしました、

そして、何ヶ月もかかりましたが夫がたくさんのIKEAの収納家具を組み立てくれたり、プラニングの図を描いてくれたり大工さんに指示してくれたりと大活躍してくれ、大工さんが工夫して希望の前後２重になった本棚や収納の棚を作ってくれたお陰で、とても居心地の良いクラフトルームになりました。

クラフトルームと呼んではいますが、クラフトをするときだけではなく、料理本を読んだりコンピューターで検索したりYouTubeを見たりメールを書いたりと今のところクラフト以外のことをしている時間の方が多く、家にいる時は夫と食事を作ったり食事をしたり、夕方や夜に一緒にテレビを見る時以外、わたしはこのお部屋に籠っています。

As we’d never done any renovation to a house or apartment before I had lots of worry if things would work in the various rooms, but at least I had some sort of images for the main rooms so I was able to let our interior designer understand my taste, but I wasn’t able to find any photos online that I felt was very “me” for my craft room and I didn’t have any tangible image in my mind about how I wanted the interior.  What I knew I wanted was to have plenty of storage, not messy but not completely tidy because I want the room to have some character.  As well as looking tidy enough and functional enough, I wanted to have some “fun” element and have an arty feel. In the end I decided to have some Ikea furniture, some shelves to be built-in by our carpenter, and to get some pieces of vintage furniture.

Thanks to my husband – who built the many Ikea storage units, drew the design plans and told our carpenter, plumber and electrician what we wanted – and to our carpenters (who built the double layer book cases and all the other storage shelve and the reading nook), I now have a very nice and comfortable room with a plenty of storage.  Although we decided to call it a “craft room”,  it’s a lot more than that because I have my PC here, all our cookery books are here, I do all the searching online, watching youtube videos, reading cookery books, writing emails etc.   Apart from when we cook or eat or watch TV together, I’m basically in this room.

ということで、IKEAの収納家具と大工さんに作ってもらう作り付けの棚だけではなく、ビンテージの家具を探して収納に使い、読書コーナーにはポップな色を使いました。

So, I decided to have some vintage furniture for storage as well as several IKEA storage units, and the shelves made by our carpenter and used some bright colours in the “reading nook”.

リノベーション前は、ガレージでした。車が２台入る広さなので結構広かったのですが、断熱材を入れて壁を作って、2重の本棚を入れて、入り口にパントリーや冷蔵庫と冷凍庫の置き場所を作ったので、長さはそれほど変わりませんが、幅がずいぶん狭くなりました。

It was originally the house’s garage.  As it was a double garage it wasn’t small, but with added internal insulation, walls, double book cases and two storage areas near the door it’s quite a lot narrower than it was.

 

 

入り口を入ったところから見たクラフトルーム。黒いデスクはIKEAのものを２つL字形に並べていて、その下にやはりIKEAの引き出しユニット（Alex）の２種類を並べ、反対側（椅子に座って手が届くところ）にもう１つ置いています。

This is the view when you go in from the door into the craft room.  I used 2 black desks from Ikea in L shape, put 2 different units of Ikea unit (Alex) under the table on the door side and another Ikea unit (also Alex) on the other side, which will be next to me when I sit in the chair.

 

 

ドア側の引き出しユニットの上には大きなギロチンタイプのカッターともう少し小さなスライドタイプのカッターをのせています。

I’m keeping a large guillotine type cutter and another large sliding type cutter on top of the larger drawer unit.

 

本棚は奥と手前の２段になっていて、奥に日本の料理本、手前に英語の料理本を並べています。他にお料理教室でいただいたレシピもたくさんあるのですが、そういうものはごちゃごちゃ見えるので奥の本棚に並べて隠せるようにしています。白と黒のパネルはマグネットペイントを塗ってあるのでマグネットで薄めのものをとめることができるようになっています。

The book cases are in double layers, with the front layer sliding on rails.  Cookery books in English are in the front cases and those in Japanese are in the back cases.  I also have a lot of files of recipes I’ve collected from cooking classes and friends which I’m keeping in the back cases so they are hidden (because they make the room look untidy).  The black and white sliding panels on the front are painted with magnetic paint so I can stick up lightweight paintings, photos etc.

 

窓側の隅っこは、読書コーナー兼お昼寝コーナー（笑）。少し丸まれば寝れる広さになっています。読書コーナーのマットとクッションは、インテリアデザイナーさんと相談してピンクとオレンジを使ってアクセントにしました。

In the corner, our carpenter made a reading nook for me, it’s large enough for me to lie down (though I need to slightly curl up my body) if I wanted to have a nap!  I chose pink and orange for the matress and the cushions for pops of colours.

窓のブラインドにもピンクのリボンをアクセントにしています。

The blind is also made with pink ribbons as accents.

 

窓側の壁のユニットもIKEAですが、ハンドルだけつけかえました。下の扉の中にはクリアースタンプやダイカット用のダイが入っていて、右上端のIKEAのユニットにスクラップブッキング用の１２インチ四方のパターンペーパーなど、右端の下にあるブリキの缶の中には、木にゴムを貼り付けた昔からあるタイプのスタンプを収納しています。

The storage units along the wall under the window are also from Ikea but we changed the handles, I’m keeping clear stamps and dies in them.  I’m keeping the 12 inch square scrapbooking pattern paper and some other paper in the square box unit from Ikea above them.  I’m storing wooden stamps in the tin boxes under the work top.

 

 

 

ドア側にある壁（この壁の向こう側に冷蔵庫と冷凍庫を置いています）には、ビンテージの家具を置いていて、左端の背が高いフランスのファイルキャビネットにはカードストック（ドアは閉まります）、その右側のビンテージのハバダシャリー用の引き出しユニットには、ビーズやリボンやマスキングテープ、ボタン、刺繍糸、マーカーなどを収納し、その上にはやはりビンテージのミルク入れや陶器入れ物などにマーカーや筆など収納しています。

Along the wall closer to the door, we put vintage furniture.  The taller unit is a French filling cabinet and here I’m keeping all the cardstock – the door can be closed by sliding it upwards.  In the old haberdashery drawer unit, I’m keeping things like beads, sequins & other embelishments, ribbons, masking tapes, buttons, embroidery threads, alcohol markers and many other bits and pieces, and above that I’m keeping things like alcohol markers and brushes in vintage milk tins and ceramic jars.  Behind this wall we made a separate area where we have a fridge and a freezer and some space for storage.

 

 

 

窓がある壁の反対側、元々ガレージのドアがあった壁にはIKEAの引き出しユニットと棚を作りつけてもらい、箱などを使って水彩画用のものやカメラ関係のもの、６インチ四方のパターンペーパー、作ったカードなど収納しています。この作り付けの棚にちょうど収まる白い箱やグレーと白の収納籠などを見つけるのが大変でした。

Along the wall on the opposite side to the window was where the garage doors were originally. Here I have 2 drawer units from Ikea and also shelves that our carpenter built for me and I’m keeping things like paper and paint for watercolouring, 6-inch pattern paper, cards that I made, camera lenses etc.  It took me a long time to find the storage boxes and baskets that are the right size for the shelves.

 

ビンテージのデスクの中には切手や封筒、差出人アドレススティッカーなどカードを送るときに必要なものを入れています。椅子はビンテージ風に加工した新しいもの。

In this vintage desk, I’m keeping things that we need for sending out cards – postage stamps, envelopes, address stickers, pens, etc.  The chair has some vintage-like texture but is new.

 

 

座る側のデスクの下のIKEAの引き出しユニットの上にはカッティングマットやミスティー、スコアリングボード、小さなカッターなどを収納していて、引き出しの中には様々なインクパッド、糊類などを入れています。

On top of the Ikea drawer unit on the side I sit at, I’m keeping cutting mats, my Misty, a scoring board and a small cutter.  In the drawers, I’m keeping inks from various companies, glue and other things I use often.
