今日は時々ご一緒している香港時代からのお友達ご夫婦と、お友達が「ここはサンデー・ローストが美味しい」とおっしゃっていた「The Millstream」というこじんまりしたホテルのレストランでランチをご一緒しました。日曜日なので、典型的なサンデー・ロースト。

We had a catch-up lunch with our friends we’ve known since our Hong Kong days. We had Sunday Roast at a hotel “The Millstream“, where our friends like for Sunday Roast.

昔々イギリスのエクセターに英語の勉強に来ていた頃は、多分、ほとんどのご家庭で毎週日曜日は何かしらロースト・ディナーをランチタイムに食べていたと思います。ロースト・ディナーは、ビーフ、ポーク、チキン、ラムなど何かのお肉とポテト、パースニップなどをオーブンで焼いていただくものです。結構時間がかかるので、時間がある日曜日のランチタイムのお料理なのでしょうか。その頃は日曜日はどこのお店も、スーパーでさえ閉まっていましたっけ。

When I was in Exeter to learn English all those years ago, I think most families were having a Sunday Roast every Sunday.  Those days all the shops including supermarkets were closed on Sundays.

 

夫は、ローストビーフ。ローストビーフには必ずヨークシャープディングがついて来ます。他のお野菜はカリフラワー・チーズ、ロースト・パースニップ、ロースト・キャロット、茹でたキャベツ。

My husband had Roast Beef, which always comes with Yorkshire Pudding.  Side dishes were cauliflour cheese, roast parsnip, roast carrot & boiled cabbage.

 

わたしは、ローストポークにしました。ローストポークには必ずアップルソースがついてきますが、本来ヨークシャープディングはビーフにしかつきません、今日はつけてもらいました。

I had Roast Pork, which always comes with apple sauce but usually not Yorkshre pudding – but we asked if they would give us Yorkshire pudding and they kindly did.

お友達はわたしと同じローストポーク、お友達のご主人はローストラム。全員ヨークシャープディングをつけてもらいました。

My friend had Roast Pork like I did, and her husband had Roast Lamb.  We all had Yorkshire pudding.

 

わたしと夫は、デザートにりんごとブラックベリーのクランブルをシェアー。お友達はパンナコッタ、ご主人はデザートなしでコーヒー。

For dessert my husband and I shared an Apple & Blackberry Crumble.  My friend had Panna Cotta and her husband had no dessert but just coffee.

 

 

ホテルには、小さいですが、お花がいっぱい咲いていて可愛いお庭がありました。

The hotel has a small but cute garden with lots of flowers.
