今日宿泊するホテルは、ボーダーズにある「Windlestraw」というホテル。夫がインバネスと次の宿泊場所のヨークとの大体中間辺りにあるということで選んだホテルですが、夫のイメージとは違っていました。いつもわたしたちが宿泊するホテルは（場所にも状況にもよりますが）できるだけ部屋数は多くないけれど、建物はある程度大きなところを選びます。ベッドルームに籠らずにホテルのラウンジなどでゆっくりしたい、というのと、レストランもある程度のレベルでサービス面でもプロフェッショナルなところが好みなのです。ですが、今回のホテルは、来てみると思っていたより規模が小さく、ご夫婦で経営されているゲストハウスという感じのホテルでした。

The hotel we are staying in Borders tonight, “Windlestraw”, is what my husband chose because it’s about in the middle between Inverness and York (where we are staying tomorrow) but it’s not the type of a hotel he thought. We in general choose a hotel that doesn’t have too many rooms but is large enough to have spacious lounge(s) and restaurant so we can relax in a lounge rather than staying in the bedroom all the time. I would like the restaurant to have certain level and the service to be professional, too. However, this hotel is more like a guesthouse that is run by a couple, and is much smaller than we like.

宿泊料金が大体いつも宿泊しているホテルと大きくは変わらないこともあり、違うイメージを抱いていたようです。多分、ロックダウンが解消されて以来、ホテル（こういうゲストハウス的なところ、もっと規模が大きなホテル、ホリデーレンタル的なところ、どこも）は軒並み宿泊料金を大幅にアップしているのだと思います。ロックダウン解除後にホテルの検索をしていて感じましたが（これまで、ほとんどわたしがホテルを選んでいます）多分、10％などという幅ではなく、ホテルによっては30％かそれ以上値上げしているのではないかという気がします。

My husband expected it to be different because the room fee is about the same level as what we usually pay for the hotels we like – or I shoud say we used to pay before the pandemic. What I think has happend is that almost all the hotels/guesthouses/self-catering accomodations put their fees up significantly, I noticed this when I was searching online for hotels after the pandemic (and so far I’m the one who has been choosing the hotels for our trips) they probably increased it by not something like 10%, more like 30% or more.

ま、お部屋は小さいですが普通ですしバスルームも綺麗で新しく、お庭も景色も綺麗なので今のところ特に問題はないのですが、これからホテル選びをするときには気をつけないと、と思いました。

The room is small but fine, the bathroom is clean and looks newly done, the garden looks very pretty and the view is lovely, so far we haven’t had any problem, but I think we need to be careful when we choose hotels from now on.
