今朝、夫と一緒に昨日買ったクリスマスツリーをリビングに入れました。買った時は枝が全部上に向いているので、枝が下がってくるのを待ってライトを飾って他の飾りをつけるのですが、今日、アフタヌーンティーから戻ったら夫が「ツリーだけど、形は良いんだけど枝が上の方からついてるんだよね。」と。見に行くと、確かに！これは盲点でした！買ったところで幹を切ってもらうときにもっと上まで切ってもらうべきでした。これまでのツリーは枝が下の方からついていたので、ツリーを入れている水を入れる入れ物は何もしなくてもほとんど見えなくて少し見えるだけなので、布をぐるっと巻いて隠すようにしているのです。でも、これだけ丸見えだと布を巻いただけでは可笑しいかも。

We moved the tree we bought yesterday into the living room this morning.  We need to wait until all the branches come down before my husband can decorate it with lights.  However, when I came back from the afternoon tea my husband said, “The tree has a good shape but the branches start very high.”  Oh dear, we didn’t notice that when we bought it!  We should have asked the guy in the shop to cut more off of the bottom.  All the ones we bought in the past had branches starting from a much lower position so you hardly see much of the green stand and I just wrapped a large cloth around it so a little that shows is covered by the cloth.  I think it will look strange if I just wrapped a cloth around the stand…

良く売られているツリーの裾に巻く円形の布、なんて言うのでしたっけ、アメリカで良く使われているもの、あれはあまり好きじゃないのでこれまで布をぐるっと巻いていたのですが。。。で、少し前に買おうかどうしようか迷っていた籐製のツリーリングというものをオーダーすることにしました。でも、その写真を見てもそのツリーリングのすぐ上から枝が出始めていてツリーリングの中は見えないのです。このツリーだと、多分丸見えなんですよね〜。やれ、やれ。

We don’t like those, I cannot remember what you call them, the round thing you put on the bottom of a tree that many American people use.  We’ve been thinking of buying a tree ring made of rattan that would cover the stand and we decided to try it and ordered it, but I’m not quite sure if that would solve the problem.  The photos of the tree ring shows that the branches of the tree start right above the ring so you cannot see inside the ring.  In this case, we would see the inside, wouldn’t it?  Oh dear….  Hopefully the branches will come down a lot
