今日は、時々ランチをご一緒している夫の大学の時のお友達ご夫婦と、 Lewes という街のパブでランチをご一緒しました。Lewes は我が家から１時間弱のところにある街で何度か行ったことがありますが、古いお家がたくさん残っていて素敵なところです。お天気が良ければ少しぶらぶらしようと思っていたのですが、丁度到着した頃から小雨になり、途中やんでいたと思うのですがランチが終わって外に出ると雨だったので、ランチだけして帰って来ましたが、駐車場からパブまで少し距離があったので少しだけ街並みを見ることも出来ました。
We had lunch with my husband’s friends from university in a pub in Lewes. Lewes is a little less than an hour from us and we’ve been there a few times, it is a lovely town with lots of attractive old buildings. We wanted to walk in town a little if the weather was better but just when we got there it started to rain a bit. I think it stopped raining at one point while we were having lunch but by the time we had finished and we went out of the pub it was raining again, so we didn’t walk around in town. However, the car park we used was a little away from the pub so we did see some part of the town.
ランチは、この、お友達がトリップアドバイザーで探してくださった「The Pelham Arms」に行きました。一般的なパブよりもわたしが食べたいと思えるものが結構メニューにありました。
We went to this pub “The Pelham Arms“, which our friend found on TripAdvisor. Comparing to many other pubs, their menu had more things that I felt like trying.
内装も、トラディショナルなパブで感じが良かったです。
The interior was quite traditional, very nice.
わたしは、レンティルサラダにしました。ビーツ、ブロッコリー、クランベリー、アーモンド、チミチュリソースなどが入っていて、トッピングにハルミチーズ、ファラフェル、チキンから選べます。わたしはファラフェルにしてみました。サラダのお味付けはとても良かったです。ファラフェルはあまりスパイスが効いていなくてドライでした。全体に美味しかったのですが、ほとんどがレンティルなので飽きてしまい、４分の１くらいやっといただく、という感じでした。例えばご普通のトマトやレタスのサラダなどと一緒に盛ってあれば、食感に変化がついてもっといただけたと思います。そして、イギリスではほとんどのパブがそうなのですが、この量はどう考えても多いと思います、普通の人がこんなに食べられるとは思えません、せめて半分くらいにして欲しい。こんなに大きなボール一杯のレンティルを見ると、かえって食欲が失せてしまいます。（写真だとわかりにくいですが、ラーメン用のボール以上の大きさです。）
I chose Warm Lentil Salad, which had beets, broccoli, cranberry, almond & chimichuri sauce and you could choose one topping from Halloumi cheese, falafel & chicken, and I chose falafel. The seasoning of the salad was very nice specially with chimichuri sauce. Falafel didn’t seem to have much spice and it was quite dry. The salad was very tasty overall, but it was mostly lentils and I found it a bit boring after having some. I managed to eat about 1/4 I think. If it came with just an ordinary salad of tomatoes and lettuce, for example, you could have different texture and enjoy the lentils more. Also, most pubs in England serve too much food. I cannot imagine an ordinary person finishing this much food. I wish they served just a half because such a huge bowl of food makes me loose my appetite.
夫は、バーガー。とても美味しかったそうです。チップスはわたしも少しいただきましたが、カリカリでした。
My husband had burger, he said it was very good. I had some of his chips, they were very nice and crispy.
お友達のご主人の方は、チキンシュニッツェル。ソースの量にびっくりしました。
Our friend (the husband) had Chicken Schnitzel. It came with so much sauce!
奥様の方は、お魚。
His wife had fish.
わたしと夫は、デザートに、スティッキー・トフィー・プディング。いつもこれ、な気がしますが、パブのデザートって他にあまり美味しそうなのがない。これは結構軽めで、ソースをかけなければ甘すぎず美味しかったです。（夫はソースをかけていました。）
My husband and I shared Sticky Toffee Pudding. We seem to have this for a dessert almost always in a pub or a restaurant, but I don’t seem to be able to find anything else that looks attractive to me in most places here. This one was quite light and not too sweet without the sauce – my husband had the sauce on his half but I didn’t.
お友達ご夫婦は、ホワイトチョコレートとパッションフルーツのチーズケーキをシェアー。

3ヶ月ぶりくらいにお目にかかったので、たくさんキャッチアップをして、次回は暖かくなった頃に外ランチしましょう、とお別れしました。外ランチが出来るお天気になるのは、いつ？
It’s been about 3 months since we got together with them, we did a lot of catching up and parted saying “Next time, lunch outside in warm weather!”. When is it going to be the weather we can eat outside here?
