昨日は夫のお誕生日だったので、生憎のお天気でしたがお祝いディナーに出かけました。１週間前に夫が風邪をひいて、２日後にわたしが風邪をひいて寝込んでしまったので、ふと気がついたら夫のお誕生日だった、というのが正直なところ。昨日、慌ててカードも作りました（笑）。

It was my husband’s birthday yesterday so we went out for dinner, in spite of bad weather in the evening.  Just when we were getting ready to go out, the rain got incredibly heavy.  Fortunately, it did get less heavy and by the time we arrived in Chichester the rain was quite light.  My husband came down with a cold a week ago then 2 days later I came down with it and I was in bed for 2 days.  Being so unwell sort of threw me and it felt as if his birthday crept up and I was  aware of it only 2 days before.  Despite all of this I managed to make a card.

実は、どこに行くかと相談していたのですが、夫は「特に行きたいところもないし、家でステーキでも。」と言っていました。でも、ねぇ、家でステーキはいつでも出来ますからちょっと残念な気がします。ということで、ちょっと特別な日にはほとんどここに行く、チチェスターの「Purchases」を予約しておきました。ちょっと特別な日に、っていうか普通の日にも行きたいレストランがほとんどなくて（涙）悲しいですが、ここは比較的全体に美味しいと思っています。ただ、メニューの変化がそれほどないのであまり頻繁には行けないのです。

When I asked my husband where he wanted to go to he couldn’t come up with anywhere and he suggest we cook steak at home.  I told him that we could have steak at home any time so it’ll be nicer to go out just to change the scene.  So in the end I booked a table at Purchases in Chichester, it is probably the best restaurant we know of around here.  Sad that there aren’t any ‘special’ restaurants around here but at least this one is consistently competent.

 

 

 

夫の前菜は、スモークトラウト（鱒）。

My husband’s starter, Smoked Trout.

 

わたしは、カリフラワーのステーキにしてみました。ここ数年、世界的になのか特にイギリスでなのか「カリフラワーのステーキ」が大流行り、どこでももかけます。あまり工夫のない焼いただけのものが多いのでほとんどオーダーしませんが、ここはチミチュリソースとあったのでオーダーしてみました。ソースはスパイスの香りが美味しかったです。ただ、いつもここはそうなのですがお塩がほとんどされていないのが残念。ま、でも、テーブルにお塩が置いてあるだけましです。ないところが多い。

I chose Cauliflower Steak to start.  For the last few years I don’t know if it’s worldwide tendency or just the UK but Cauliflower Steaks are everywhere, one of a few things you see everywhere and you get tired of seeing it.  In most places it’s only baked and doesn’t sound interesting so I seldom order but this was served with Chimichuri sauce, which sounded more interesting.  The sauce was good with some fragrant spices, but it always puzzles me why they underseason so much, there is hardly any salt at all on it so the flavour doesn’t come up.  Still, at least they have salt on the table.

 

夫はあれこれ迷って、メインは結局ステーキにしていました。リブアイ。とても美味しかったそうです。

My husband took a while to decide what to have for the main and in the end chose steak, it was Ribeye and he really enjoyed it.

 

わたしのメインは、ポークチョップにしてみました。ややドライ気味でしたが割と美味しかったです。

I chose Pork Chop, it was a little dry but had quite a good taste.

 

夫のデザート、チョコレートのパンナコッタ。これは、パンナコッタではなかったです、ムースです。

My husband had Chocolate Panna Cotta for dessert.  It was not Panna Cotta, the texture was wrong, it was really a Mousse.

 

わたしは、サマーフルーツのグラタン。これまた、グラタンではなかった。全く焼いてなくて全部完全に冷たい状態でした。フルーツはアプリコットと苺。

I chose “Summer Fruit Gratin”.  Well, it was not Gratin, it wasn’t baked at all,  everything was cold, not even torched.  Fruits were just apricot and strawberry.

 

デザートを食べていたらお店の方がこれを持って来られました。これが、謎なのです。今回わたしが予約をしましたが、夫のお誕生日のことは伝えていません。夫が、「なんでわかったの？」と聞いていましたが、お店の方はにこにこしているだけ。わたしは、以前にお誕生日に来てその時に伝えたのかな？と思ったのですが、先ほど自分のブログを調べましたがそんな形跡はありませんでした。２年前に一度夫とお誕生日にランチに行っていましたが、他の年は旅行したりアフタヌーンティーに行ったりでここで食事はしていないのです。どういうことでしょう？もしかすると、たまたま他のテーブルの方がお誕生日で、間違えられたのでは？だとしたら、そのテーブルの方はお気の毒。。。

When we were finishing our dinner a staff came to the table with this.  This is a huge mystery.  I booked a table here but I didn’t mention his birthday, just booked it in a normal way online and didn’t write anything about it.  My husband asked the staff how they knew but she was just smiling.  I thought maybe I’d told them before when we went there on his birthday and I just checked my blog but we didn’t get something like this before.  We had lunch here on his birthday a couple of years ago but nothing was mentioned.  Other years, we either went away on a trip or had an afternoon tea.  How did this happen?  I’m now wondering if it was a mistake, if another table was supposed to get it.  If so, whoever was supposed to get it (or whoever organised it for him.her) must’ve been disappointed.

 

 

わたしはセットメニュー、夫はアラカルト、ワインは１杯ずつ、ガス入りのお水１本、で110ポンドほど（22000円）でした。

I had from the set menu, my husband had a la carte, and we had 1 glass of wine each, and a bottle of sparkling water to share. The bill came to about £110.
