今朝は、初めての美容院に行きました。引っ越しして憂鬱だけれどしなければいけないことの１つが、美容院探し。美容師さんを変えるのはとても憂鬱で、シンガポールでは１０年間同じ美容師さんでした。こちらに来てから１度ロンドンの日本の美容院に行きましたが、ここからロンドンまで毎回行くのは難しいので近くで探さなくてはいけません。今はクリスマス前でどこも忙しく、予約が遅くなったのであまりチョイスがなく、とりあえず行ってみるつもりで行きましたが、シャンプーの椅子は座り心地が悪いし耳にザーザーお水をかけられるし、ヘアダイを顔の周りから首筋から耳からつけられるし。。。でも、多分、これがイギリスでは普通、日本の美容院に行かない限りあの横になるシャンプー台はなかなか望めませんし、丁寧な仕事も望めません。近くに日本の美容院はありませんし、困ったものです。
This morning, I went to a hair salon for the first time in the area. One of the things I hate doing after moving is to find a hair salon. I really hate having a new hair dresser and I never changed mine in Singapore once for 10 years. I’ve been to one Japanese hair salon that I was happy enough with in London but it’s not really possible to go there every time I need to go to one. This time of the year salons are very busy and I didn’t try to book one early enough, so I didn’t have much choice and just went to the one I was able to book at short notice, but I wasn’t happy with it. Unlike Japanese salons you have to sit on a chair rather than one of those that you can lie down for hair washing – and the hairdresser poured water all over my ears while he washed my hair and put the hair die quite a lot along my hair line. I think it’s not easy to find a salon here that has those sort of shampoo chairs other than at Japanese salons and in my previous experience they seem to pour water over ears here in general. I cannot find any Japanese salons in the area at all, so I’m in a big trouble.
ちょっと驚いたのは、席について希望の飲み物を聞かれ、アップルジュースをお願いしたのですが、おしゃれなトレーにジュースとポップコーンと、ポップコーンで見えませんがリンツのチョコレートを出してくださいました。飲み物とクッキーはシンガポールでも出て来ましたが、こんな風には出て来ませんでしたので、良い意味で驚きました。
Something that surprised me in a good way is that they asked me what drink I wanted when I sat in the chair. I chose apple juice and this is what they gave me – large glass of apple juice, a little jar of pop corn and a Lindt (it’s hidden by the jar) on a nice tray. I used to get a cup of some drink and a cookie in Singapore, too, but it wasn’t presented so nicely.
美容院から戻って少しして、夫の弟夫婦が到着、義弟はまだ家を見ていなかったので見に来てもらい、近くのパブでランチをしました。以前も１度行ったことがあるパブですが、今回の方が印象が良かったです。
A little while after coming back from the hair salon, my husband’s brother and his wife arrived. My husband’s brother hadn’t seen our house yet, so they came over to see it and then we had lunch in a pub nearby. We’d been to this one before but we had a better impression this time.
義弟の奥さんと夫は、クリスマスらしいターキーの胸肉に詰め物をして巻いたものと野菜。
My husband and his sister-in-law had turkey breast stuffed and rolled and roasted with some vegetables.
義弟は、何かのパイ。
My brother-in-law had some kind of pie with chips.
わたしは、安全牌のチキンカレー。期待していたより美味しかったです。
I had chicken curry, as I thought it was probably the safest option. It was very good – better than I expected.
デザートは２組とも、ブリオッシュのブレッド&バタープディングをそれぞれにシェアーしました。まぁまぁでしたが、カスタードがいけません。以前も書きましたが、あのイギリス人が好きな偽物のカスタード。コーンスターチとお砂糖とミルクに色をつけただけ、という感じ。卵も入ってませんし、バニラも入っていません。悲しすぎる。
For dessert, 2 couples shared Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding each. It was OK but I hate the fake custard that British people seem to love! You cannot call it custard when it doesn’t have egg yolk or vanilla, it’s basically corn starch and milk with colouring and flavouring. Sad…
どれも美味しかったですし、サービスも良かったと思います。スローサービスでしたが、昨日も書いたように今はどこも忙しくてスローサービスのようです。
Everyone enjoyed their lunch and, I think, the service was good, too. I have a feeling it was slow but, again, it was busy, it is that time of year.
