Happy Valentine’s Day / Steak Night

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!  How did you spend the day?  As we are still in a strict lockdown our day was just the same as the others, but to make it a little special we had steak for dinner.  As always since we moved to England, I marinaded the steaks in soy sauce, mirin, garlic, honey and wine, my husband cooked them in the Anova and then seared the outsides.  I was in charge of vegetables – carrots, tender stem broccolis and Potato Dauphinoise.  Everything was delicious!

Beef in Japan is delicious without doing anything to it, all you have to do is to cook it quickly.  However, the beef we got in Hong Kong and Singapore wasn’t really to my liking and I was just about to be able eat it if it was cooked with Anova.  In England, beef from the butcher’s we go to is very good but it becomes even more tasty when marinaded then cooked with the Anova.   My husband finished all of his but I left about a quarter, we can use it for sandwiches tomorrow.

Since we started marinading steak in advance (and cooking with Anova), I actually enjoy steaks and can eat quite a large one.  Japanese steak is very marbled so I cannot eat a lot, even though I enjoy it, and the steak in Hong Kong and Singapore was either too gamey or didn’t have much taste.  I don’t know if it’s good or not that I enjoy it now!

I keep forgetting to take a photo of the cut part, but as you can see it looks quite raw.  I cannot eat very rare steak, but the texture of this isn’t like a rare texture, it feels cooked through so I can enjoy it even though it’s red.
