今日は、日本に旅行に出る前にというおとで、仲良しのお友達ご夫婦と夕食をご一緒しました。１月ほど前にランチをご一緒したときはお友達に場所選びをしていただいたので、今回はわたしたちの番ということで、チチェスターの「Purchases」を予約しました。アランデルの Thai Time を除くとわたしたちがこの辺りで行ったところでは一番美味しいと思うレストラン。

We had dinner with our good friends so we can catch up before we leave for Japan.  The last time we got together about a month ago, our friends chose the restaurant, so this time it was our turn and we chose “Purchases” in Chichester.  Apart from Thai Time in Arundel, this is the best restaurant around here that we’ve been to.

My friend and I chose from the set menu and our husbands chose from the a la carte.

 

乾杯〜！　このワイン（CHÂTEAU KSARA ROUGE. CHÂTEAU KSARA 2018）、とても好みでした。

わたしは前菜に「今日のスープ（人参とコリアンダーとチリオイル）」をいただきました。美味しかったですがちょっと塩分もパンチも足りなかったかな。チリオイルはさっぱり感じず。最近、なんだか、どこに行っても「今日のスープ」が人参とコリアンダーのスープなのはなぜ？

I chose ‘Today’s Soup’, which was carrot, coriander and chilli oil.  It was good although it wasn’t seasoned quite enough and I didn’t taste any chilli oil.  I wonder why wherever you go ‘today’s soup’ is carrot and coriander…

 

お友達は前菜なし、男性２人は、カントリーパテ。

My friend didn’t have any starter.  Our husbands each had Country Pate.

メインは、わたしはポークのカトゥレット、蜂蜜、マスタード、パセリソース。パン粉をつけて揚げたものかと勝手に思っていましたが違いました。でも、塩分がちょうど良く硬なくジューシーで、とっても美味しかったです、イギリスのレストランで初めて美味しいと思ったポークでした。付け合わせは、トリュフとパルメザン風味のマッシュポテト、かぼちゃ（またはパターナッツ・スクウォッシュ？）、スィートハート・キャベツ、ディジョンマスタードソース。キャベツは多分、さっとグリルしてあったのだと思います。マッシュポテトはたくさんあったので残しましたが、あとは完食しました。

I had Pork Cutlet (Honey, Mustard & Parsley Crusted) for the main.  I somehow expected it to be what I think of as a “cutlet” and be breaded and fried but it wasn’t, it was just grilled then topped with honey, mustard & parsley.  The seasoning was spot on, the pork wasn’t dry and it was really tasty.  The first pork I’ve really enjoyed in restaurants in England ever.  It came with a pumpkin (or butter nut squash) puree, mash with truffle & parmesan, sweetheart cabbage, and a dijon mustard sauce.  Cabbage was just quickly grilled, I think, and was tasty, too.  There was a lot of mash so I left quite a bit of it (and I’m not a big fan of truffle oil) but had everything else and enjoyed it very much.  The pork was quite thinly sliced and on the small side – which I like.  I lose my appetite when it’s thick and large.

 

 

お友達は、プレイス（カレイ）のチリととうもろこしのアジア風ソース、シャーロットポテトとテンダーステムブロッコリー。美味しかったそうです。

My friend had Plaice – Charlotte Potatoes / Tenderstem Broccoli / Chilli & Sweetcorn Asian Dressing.  She said it was very nice.

 

男性２人は、ほろほろ鳥の胸肉、もも肉のボンボン、ジェム・レタスのグリル、キャラメライズ・カリフラワー・ピューレ、マディラのジュ。美味しかったそうです。たまたま、今メニューをチェックしていて気づいたのですが、これ１品が£27.50 （約5000円）、３コースのセットメニューが£25.95(4700円）なのでちょっとびっくりしました。他のメインもそれほど違わないお値段。もちろんコースメニューがお得なのはわかっているのですが、これ程とは！お友達のご主人も夫と同じものをオーダーされていて良かったです（笑）。最も、夫だけがアラカルトをオーダーしていたらその場でお値段チェックをしていますが。

The two men each had “Breast of guinea fowl, confit leg bonbon, charred gem lettuce, caramelised malted califlower puree, and madeira infused jus.  My husband said it was very good.  I just checked the menu to be able to write this post and realised this on its own cost £27.50, which surprised me because the a 3 course set menu cost almost as much (£25.95).  Most of the other main items cost more or less that much, too.  Of course I knew that the set menu is much better value, I just didn’t realise how much better.  I’m glad that he wasn’t the only person who ordered from the a la carte.  Of course I would have checked the prices before sharing the bill if he was the only one, though.

 

デザートは、夫だけがパンナコッタ、他はバナナのタルトタタン。パイの食感がサクサクではなくべったりしていたのだけは残念でしたが、美味しかったです。

My husband had Panna Cotta and others had Banana Tarte Tatan.  It was a shame that the pie crust was very soggy but it was still tasty.

 

 

ワイン１本とガス入りのお水１本と税、サービスを入れて１組み110ポンド（約20000円）でした。こちらは、最高級というわけではないですが比較的高級レストランなので、大体これくらいが相場かな、と思います。

Including a bottle of wine and a bottle of sparkling water as well as tax/service charge, it was £110 per couple.  Although this restaurant isn’t the most expensive and high level restaurant, it is an upmarket one so this is what we expect.

 

今回は1ヶ月前に会ったところだったのに、お２人は旅行されたりイベントに行かれたりとお聞きするお話しが一杯ありましたし、わたしたちもいくつかお出かけをしましたし、日本への旅行のこともあり会ってからお別れするまで３時間、ず〜っと楽しくおしゃべりが続きました。次回お目にかかれるのはわたしたちが日本から戻ってからなので、早くて１１月中旬です。１１月中旬にはもうクリスマスのデコレーションも見られて、気忙しくなっている頃。なんて考えていると、今年もあっという間に終わりそうです。

Although we saw them a month ago, they’d been away, had some big family gatherings etc.,  and we also had been to a few places since then. and also had the plan for our big Japan trip, so there was so much to catch up with, we didn’t stop talking from the moment we met until we said bye-bye after 3 hours.  Next time we see them it’ll be in the middle of November earliest, and I think by then the Christmas decorations will be up and people would be getting busy with preparation for Christmas.  It’ll be the end of the year before we know it!
