Exbury Gardens
今日は Exbury というガーデンに行って来ました。ここは石楠花で有名で、まだ時期的に早いだろうなと思いつつ行ってみたのですが、やはりまだまだ早かったです。石楠花は数えるほどの木しか咲いていませんでしたし、まだ蕾もないものもたくさんありました。見頃は多分4月末か5月に入ってからだと思います。 We went to Exbury Gardens, which is well known for rhododendrons. Hillier Gardensに行く前に、カフェでランチ。Beaulieuという街のガーデンセンターの中にある「Steff’s Kitchen 」に行きました。コテージをお借りしているお友達にお聞きして、以前にも一度行ったことがあります。 Before going to Hillier Gardens we had lunch at a cafe. ” Steff’s Kitchen “, which is in a garden centre in Beaulieu. Sir Harold Hillier Gardens
今日も青空が広がる良いお天気！最高気温18度！これはイギリスでは春というより夏のお天気です。しかも、この先まだ数日このお天気が続くらしい。ただ、最低気温はマイナス1度でした。 It’s been beautiful weather in England! The highest temperature is 18C! In March?! It’s more like summer rather than spring. And it’ll be like this in the next few days. Christmas At Gidleigh Park Hotel
今日からデボンの大好きなホテル Gidleigh Parkに3泊で来ています。生憎の小雨ですが、暖かく居心地良い室内でクリスマス気分を楽しみたいと思います。 We are staying at Gidleigh Park in Devon, which is our favourite hotel, from today for 3 nights. Sadly it’s been raining a little but we will enjoy Christmas in this warm and cosy hotel.
Staying at Friends’
ヘイスティング近くのお友達ご夫妻のお家に泊まりにきています。スイスにお住まいの共通のお友達ご夫妻泊まりに来るので、同じ日に来ない？と誘っていただきました。ディナーに沢山のご馳走をご用意いただいていました。 We are staying at our friends’ tonight. They invited us over because a couple living in Switzerland, who are our mutual friends, are visiting England and are staying with them tonight. They prepared a lot of lovely food for dinner. やっとこのようにお友達のお家に泊めて頂いたりお招きしたり出来るようになって嬉しいのですが、イギリスではまだまだ結構な人数の方がコロナに感染し(30000人前後だと思います)、亡くなっているので(多分１日150人前後)、どこまで普通に近い生活をするべきなのかは、判断が難しいところです。今はマスクをしない人も増えて、人が密集するところに出かける人も増えていますから、それだけ感染する可能性も増えている気がしています。 It feels good that we can now stay at families’ or friends’ and…
Bath Priory (Hotel in Bath)
バースでの宿泊ホテルは、Bath Priory。今回もトイレは別のお部屋(ドアを開けて廊下がありリビングと繋がっていて、トイレは廊下部分にあります)。シャワーは別でもトイレはお部屋にある方が有難いのですが。 多分、どこも古い建物を改造しているので、スイートにするにはこうするしかないのでしょうね。 The hotel we are staying in Bath is the Bath Priory. Birthday Trip Day 5 (Shrewsbury)
バースデー旅行５日目の昨日は、ウェールズからバースまでの移動日でしたが、途中ランチ休憩も兼ねて白黒の古い建物が素敵に Shrewsbury という街に寄りました。本当に沢山の古くて傾いた建物が残っている素敵な街でした。素敵過ぎて、写真が凄い数です！ On the 5th day of our trip, which was yesterday, we drove from Wales to Bath but stopped at the town of Shrewsbury where many beautiful (and leaning) old buildings survive – it really was a lovely town. Birthday Trip Day 4 (Steam Train)
バースデー旅行４日目はお天気が良い予報だったので、機関車に乗りました。いくつか乗れる機関車がありますが、乗ったのは「Ffestiniog & Wales Highland Railways」の一番時間が短い区間で、「Woodland Wanderer」。Porthmadog とTan-y-Bwlchを往復しました。 On the 4th day of our trip, we took a steam train. There are quite a few different steam trains running in North Wales but we chose the “Woodland Wanderer” of “Ffestiniog & Wales Highland Railways”.
