土曜日の甥っ子（夫の弟の息子）の結婚式の日は、オックスフォード・タウン・ホールで行われました。自分達の結婚式ではないのでどこまでアップして良いのか難しいので、控えめに。とても素敵なタウン・ホールでした。お式は日本式に言うと人前式になるのでしょうか、イギリスでは多分珍しいと思うのですが、宗教色のないお式でした。 The wedding of our nephew was in Oxford Town Hall. Heatwave
先週は少しずつ気温が上がって、この週末からはヒートウェーブが来ています。とは言っても湿気はなく、まだ今のところ最高気温２６度、２７度ですし、直射日光にあたると暑くてたまらないのですが、日陰は涼しいですし、家の中もまぁ、苦痛になるほどには暑くなっていません。ベッドルームは暑くてわたしたちはクーラーなしには眠れませんが、イギリスのほとんどのお家には入れていないので、皆さん窓を開けて眠られているのかな。わたしたちも数週間前に窓を開けて寝たりもしてみましたが、早くから明るくなるのでブラインドは開けたくないので、そうなると風はほとんど入って来なくて涼しいとは言い難いのです。明日は２８度まで上がる予報になっていますが、この辺りではそれ以上は上がらないようなので２年前だったかの夏のように苦痛でたまらない暑さにはならないようです。でも、ロンドンは３０度を超えているようですし、１週間ほど先には３４度まで上がる予報です。都会はどうしても暑くなりますね。 The temperature had been going up last week and we are expected to have a heatwave from this weekend. 金曜日にオックスフォードに来る途中、「Mayfield Lavender Farm」に立ち寄りました。到着して見渡す限りラベンダーな景色を見て、思わず、「Wow！！！」という言葉が口から出るほど、圧倒される景色でした。去年、2カ所のラベンダーファームに行ってみたところは早く行き過ぎたりそれほど規模が大きくなかったりでしたが、こちらは規模が大きく、多分今がピーク。家の近くにもまだ行っていないラベンダーファームがあるのですが、まだオープンしていないので、イギリスの中でも結構時期に違いがあるようです。 On Friday on our way to Oxford, we stopped at “Mayfield Lavender Farm”. Eating On The Patio (Roasted Vegetable With Couscous)
今日の夕方、お庭にはほとんど風もなくそこそこ暖かかったので（今夜９時ですがまだ１８度あります、少しずつ暖かくなってきています）、パティオで夕食をしました。今日の夕食は、ロースト野菜のクスクスサラダ、レシピは Delia Smith の「 Roasted Vetetable Couscous Salad With Harissa-style Dressing」を元にしています。（茄子があると思っていたらなかったので省略、フェネル、ニンニク、ゴートチーズも入れていません。）お野菜がとっても甘くて本当に美味しい。４人分くらいありそうな量でしたが、ほとんど２人で食べてしまいました。 There was hardly any wind in the evening in our back garden and it seemed warm enough (it’s 18C now at 9:00pm, it is slowly getting warmer again), so we decided to have dinner on the patio. Mini Garden Update (Dahlia)
フロントガーデンで、２つ目のダリアが咲きました！Sara Raven という種類。 The second dahlia has a bloom, ‘Sara Raven’, in the front garden. Verrone’s Obsidian も多分これが満開の状態だと思います。 I think this Verron’s Obsidian is in full bloom. 他のもたくさん蕾をつけています。 Others also have a lot of buds now.
Ribollita (Tuscan Bean & Bread Soup)

Dahlia (Garden Update)
ダリア、１輪目が咲きました！「Verrone’s Obsidian」という種類で、ちょっと変わっている形とダークな色に魅かれて選びました。もう少し花びらが開きますが、開いてもお星様のような形の花びらです。とっても可愛い！たくさん蕾がついているので、たくさん咲くのが楽しみです。 The first Dahlia now has a flower! This one is called Verrone’s Obsidian, I chose it because I liked the unusual shape and the dark colour. The petals will open up more but the flower still has a star-like shape, very pretty. West Dean With Friends
木曜日には、お友達ご夫婦と West Dean Gardens で落ち合って、キャッチアップをしながら、お花や果物やお野菜を見ながらゆっくり歩きました。前回ご一緒したのは４月末でチューリップやラナンキュラスや桜などが咲いている時期でしたが、今回は薔薇を始め様々なお花が至る所に咲いていました。こういうところはやはり、５月後半から６月が一番綺麗な気がします。また、たくさんの写真になりますが。 We met our friends at West Dean Gardens on Thursday and walked together looking at the flowers, fruits, vegetables at the same time as catching up with each other.
