今日の夕食は、とても簡単でさっぱりとしたパスタにしました。ジェイミー・オリバーの「シンプルな夏のスパゲティー」。プチトマトを半分に切ってボールい入れて手で軽く潰し、オリーブ（レシピではそのままのようですが、わたしは大きめに刻みました）、バジル（紫蘇を使いました）、マジョラム（省略）、ニンニク、ビネガー（わたしはラズベリー・ビネガー、少しレモン汁も足しました）、オリーブオイル、胡椒を入れたところに茹でたスパゲティーを入れて混ぜ、味をみて足りなければお塩をして出来上がり、という簡単さ。熱々でもなく、冷製パスタでもなく、中途半端な暖かいパスタ。冷たいソースに熱々のスパゲティーを入れるので味が馴染みますし、スパゲティーを冷やす手間もなくて簡単です。わたしは、とても美味しいと思います。夫も美味しいと食べていました。 Today’s dinner was a very simple and light pasta – Jamie Oliver’s “Simple Summer Spaghetti”. Hydrangea Annabelle

Disappointment
ロンドンではお芝居やライブジャズやコンサートやオペラなど、何かしら催しを見に行くのも楽しみの一つ。前回来た時はまだコロナに感染するのが心配だったので我慢したのですが、イギリスはもうほぼ通常に戻っているので（感染者は今も出ていますが、重症患者や死者は随分減りました）今回は明日のオペラ、マダムバタフライのチケットを取っていて、久しぶりのオペラを楽しみにしていました。ところが、今日、キャンセルになったというメールが届きました。鉄道や地下鉄のストでスタッフが出勤出来ないというのが理由。とても残念！ One of the things we love doing in London is to go to some kind of event like a play, live jazz, a concert, an opera etc. The last time we were in London we decided not to go to any of them because the situation with Covid was still bad enough to make…

今日から3泊でロンドンに来ています。主な目的は、来月夫の甥っ子の結婚式に参加するのですが着ていけそうなものがないので洋服探しなのですが、すぐに見つかるかどうかわからないので少し余裕をもった滞在日数にしました。暫くロンドンに来ていなかったので田舎では行けないレストランに行ったり、他のお買い物もしたいし、早く見つかったら見つかったでロンドンを楽しみたいですし。 We are staying in London for 3 nights from today. G & T (With Silent Pool’s Greengage Gin)
今日は珍しく、木曜日に Silent Pool というジンの蒸溜所で買ったグリーン・ゲイジ（プラムの一種）のジンで作った食事の前に G & T (ジン・トニック）を飲みました。梅酒のソーダ割、という感じの風味で美味しかったです。今日も暑くて２７度まで気温が上がりましたが、結構雲が多いお天気で湿度が高め、今は強い風も吹いていて外は涼しいです。ただ、家の中は結構暑い。なので、ジン・トニックを飲みたくなったのかもしれません。 It’s unusual for us but we had G&T before dinner today using the Greengage Gin we bought at Silent Pool Distillers on Thursday. Lunch At Mandira’s Kitchen
今日は、夫の弟夫婦とランチをしました。義弟が提案してくれた「Mandira’s Kitchen」というインド料理のレストランに行ってきました。ギルフォードの近くにあり、昔は何もなく池だけがあるところだったそうで、若い頃近くに住んでいた夫は時々歩きに行っていたのだそうです。小さなレストランですが、レストランだけではなくお料理教室を開催したり、食器や食料品を販売したり、インド料理を冷凍した状態でデリバリーもされているそうです。ただ、外席しかなく席数も少ないので予約は必要だと思います。特に日陰になる席は限られているので、とても暑かったので今日は日陰に座ることが出来て良かったです、日陰では快適でした。 We had lunch with my husband’s younger brother and his wife at “Mandira’s Kitchen” near Guildford that they had suggested. Garden Update
お庭のピオニー、４本咲いていますがどれも満開です。３株ずつ植えたのですが、後の２本は葉っぱだけです。来年は咲いてくれるかな。 There are 4 peonies open in our garden. We planted 6 of them (3 in 2 different places) but only 2 have flowers. 大好きなピオニーをオーダーしました。最初、良く使う大きなガラスの花瓶に入れていましたが、ピオニーは小さな花瓶にこんもりと入れる方が好きな感じなので、２つの花瓶に５本ずつ分けていれました。金曜日に着いたばかりですが、このところ少し暖かいのであっという間に開いてしまいました。 I ordered some peonies as I love them. 今日は親しくしているお友達ご夫婦に、ランチにお招きいただきました。お孫さんもたくさんおられてお忙しく、わたしたちが旅行で留守にしていたこともあってお目にかかるのは久しぶり、２ヶ月ぶりくらいです。ランチはローストチキンでした。 Our good friends invited us for lunch today, They are always quite busy with grandchildren and other things and we were also away for a holiday so we hadn’t seen them for more than 2 months. The lunch was Roast Chicken with all the trimmings. イギリスでは夫が子供の頃は多分ほとんどのご家庭で毎週日曜日のランチはロースト（チキンだったりビーフだったりポークだったりラムだったり）を作っておられたと思いますが、最近はそういうご家庭は少なく、時々作る方が多いのではないかと思います。ローストはオーブンに入れて時々ひっくり返したりするだけなので、お料理そのものは比較的楽なように見えますが、オーブンを開けてトレーを出してお野菜をひっくり返したりする作業は結構暑く、キッチンも暑くなりますし、サイドディッシュの数が多いですし、グレービーも作らなくてはいけないし、全部を熱々で出したいので最後の方の作業が結構バタバタ大変で、そしてなんと言ってもオイルでぎとぎとした洗い物が多いのも大変。 When my husband was a child I think…
