大好きなピオニーの季節です。５月は３週間留守にしていたのでまだお家の中にピオニーを飾る機会がなかったのですが、お庭に咲いているピオニーを摘んで飾りました。前の住人さんが植えておられたピオニー。お庭のリノベーションのときに処分されるはずが残っていて、冬の間は地上部分はなくなってしまうので残っていたこともわからなかったのですが、春に芽を出しました。嫌いな色ではないものの、リノベーションのときに植えたのはパープル系ばかりなので（デザイナーさんにはオレンジは苦手なのでパープル、ブルー、ピンク、白を使ってほしいとお願いしていましたが、蓋を開けてみるとほとんどどれもパープルでした）、目立ってしまっています。そして、リノベーションで植えたビバーナムの根のすぐ側なので（というか、ビバーナムを植える時に見えないピオニーのすぐ側に植えられてしまったわけですが）支柱を立てるのも立てにくくてどうしたものかと思っていますが、とりあえず今年はそのままにしていました。 It’s the season of peonies and I love them, but we were away for 3 weeks in May so we hadn’t had a chance to order some to put in a vase to enjoy inside the house. Lunch & Garden Centre (& Garden Update)
今日はガーデンセンターに行きたかったので、ついでにガーデンセンターのカフェでランチをしました。ペパロニがのったピザにしました。ソースが多すぎて、しょっぱかったです。 We wanted to go to a large Garden centre today so had lunch at their cafe. We had pizza with pepperoni – it had too much sauce and was quite salty. 広い方のパティオに大きなダークグレーのポットを２つ置いていて、早くお花を植えたいと思いながらなかなか何を植えるか決められず、旅行もあったので今日になりました。ペチュニアは普通過ぎるので本当は使いたくなかったのですが、なかなかこれと思うものに出会えず、結局メインはペチュニア。（最近は珍しいタイプのものもたくさん出ていますが、これは普通）。育てやすいしよく増えるので、ま、いいか、という感じ。ピンクのはネメシアという最近よく見かけるお花。白いのはイベリス・マスターピース。 We have 2 large dark grey flower pots on the larger patio and we’ve been wanting to plant them up…

今日はお昼過ぎまでは曇っていたので、お昼の後少し休憩してまた草取りに励みました。途中からお天気が良くなって暑くなったので１度５分ほど休憩を挟みましたが、２時間くらい頑張りました。夫も途中から参加。大きな雑草はほぼ制覇してずいぶんスッキリしました。もちろん日々成長しますし新しいのも生えて来るのですが、後は毎日しなくても週に２度くらいで大丈夫じゃないかなと思っています。夫に、ガーデナーさんにもっと頻繁に来ていただくようにプッシュ中。ぎっくり腰になるのが怖い。 It was very dull weather until around 3.00pm today, so after resting a little after lunch, I did some more weeding. Petworth House And Park
今日は、夫の弟夫婦と軽くランチをした後、ペットワース・ハウス・アンド・パーク（Petworth House and Park)に行ってきました。ペットワースはわたしたちの家からは車で２０分ですが、義弟夫婦からは１時間くらい。 We went to Petworth House & Park with my husband’s younger brother and his wife. Garden Update
藤の花は、多分もう満開を過ぎて先に咲き始めたところは枯れてきました。あっという間に枯れてしまうんですね〜。まだ木が小さいので花の数も少ないですしボリュームも少ないですが、藤は早く大きくなるそうなので来年が楽しみです。もう少し違う背景だともっと綺麗に見えそうなのですが、このフェンスだとあまり綺麗に見えなくて残念。 Wisteria has probably passed the peak, already some parts of the flowers are looking dry. I’m surprised for how short a time they look good. The tree is still very small and there aren’t that many flowers, but I hear they grow fast so I’m looking forward to seeing it fuller next year. I…

West Dean Gardens
比較的近くにお住まいのお友達ご夫婦と「West Dean Gardens」にご一緒しました。お互いにメンバーになっているので、何度かここでご一緒しています。この数日とっても良いお天気で、気温は低いので日陰では寒いのですが陽の光が眩しくて陽に当たると暑いくらいでした。ところが、今日はお天気が悪く、冬に逆戻りしたように寒く感じました。まだ最低気温は４度、５度、今日の最高気温は１２度でした。来週は少し気温が上がるみたいです。 We went to “West Dean Gardens” with our friends, who live relatively close. 今日は午後から、今年初めてブルーベルを見に出かけました。近くにあるブルーベルがきれいと聞いていた「Eartham Woods」にまず行ってみたのですが、見つからず。多分いつもはきれいなのだと思うのですが、最近木を伐採したようでその関係でいつものように咲いていないのではないかと思います。ということで、その近くの 「Slindon Woods」に行ってみました。見渡す限りブルーベルの絨毯、というほどではなかったのですが、そこそこ広がっていました。ブルーベルって写真だとあまり綺麗に写らないのが残念です。 We went out this afternoon to see bluebells for the first time this year. Garden Update – Spring Planting (2)
昨日、お庭のリノベーションをしてくださったガーデニングの会社の方が３名で前日に置かれていたポットの苗を植え付けてくださいました。朝９時から午後３時ごろまでとほぼ１日がかりでした。３３０個ですからね〜。でも、でも、当然ですが黒いポットに入っていたときは驚く光景でしたが植えてみればそれほどすごい数には見えませんでした。 So, 3 people from the gardening company that did the renovation last year came back to plant the new plants yesterday, they worked from 9.00am until around 3.00pm, most of the day.
