先週は少しずつ気温が上がって、この週末からはヒートウェーブが来ています。とは言っても湿気はなく、まだ今のところ最高気温２６度、２７度ですし、直射日光にあたると暑くてたまらないのですが、日陰は涼しいですし、家の中もまぁ、苦痛になるほどには暑くなっていません。ベッドルームは暑くてわたしたちはクーラーなしには眠れませんが、イギリスのほとんどのお家には入れていないので、皆さん窓を開けて眠られているのかな。わたしたちも数週間前に窓を開けて寝たりもしてみましたが、早くから明るくなるのでブラインドは開けたくないので、そうなると風はほとんど入って来なくて涼しいとは言い難いのです。明日は２８度まで上がる予報になっていますが、この辺りではそれ以上は上がらないようなので２年前だったかの夏のように苦痛でたまらない暑さにはならないようです。でも、ロンドンは３０度を超えているようですし、１週間ほど先には３４度まで上がる予報です。都会はどうしても暑くなりますね。 The temperature had been going up last week and we are expected to have a heatwave from this weekend. Sunday Lunch At A Pub
今日のランチは、義弟夫婦、姪っ子、義妹の弟ご夫婦とわたしたちの６人で Fyfield にある「The White Hart」というパブに行きました。古いお家を改装してパブとして使っていて、とても素敵でした。食事も美味しかったです。 We had lunch with my brother-in-law, his wife,their daughter, his wife’s brother and his wife at “The White Hart” in Fyfield. Lavender Farm
金曜日にオックスフォードに来る途中、「Mayfield Lavender Farm」に立ち寄りました。到着して見渡す限りラベンダーな景色を見て、思わず、「Wow！！！」という言葉が口から出るほど、圧倒される景色でした。去年、2カ所のラベンダーファームに行ってみたところは早く行き過ぎたりそれほど規模が大きくなかったりでしたが、こちらは規模が大きく、多分今がピーク。家の近くにもまだ行っていないラベンダーファームがあるのですが、まだオープンしていないので、イギリスの中でも結構時期に違いがあるようです。 On Friday on our way to Oxford, we stopped at “Mayfield Lavender Farm”. 今日の夕食は、イギリスの典型的な朝食メニューのソーセージ、ベーコン、目玉焼き、焼きトマト。朝食にはで的前sんが、玉ねぎのソテーも。ランチが遅めでデザートまでいただいたのでわたしは食べ切れず、ソーセージを１本残しました。 Today’s evening meal was a typical English breakfast – sausages, bacon, fried egg, fried tomato. I don’t think it usually comes with sauteed onion but we added that today. As we had late lunch and even shared a dessert, I couldn’t eat all of it and left one sausage.
